About MaCCOLL
MaCCOLL is working towards a future where Loch Linnhe’s waters and coastline are thriving with diverse native species, including salmon and skate. By working with and enabling a diverse range of people we aim to ensure that our natural environment is supported and protected by our local communities, preserving local history and culture, and bringing sustainability for future generations.
History of MaCCOLL
Dedicated to preserving and protecting the marine and coastal environment of Loch Linnhe. Our organisation's name reflects our deep connection to the local history and culture. With a vision of community led conservation, we aim to work closely alongside all stakeholders to develop a sustainable coastal and marine management plan for the area.
The name has significant local heritage with the MacColl name being the most common name in the area since well before the Stewarts. Agnes MacColl is now the oldest born and bred resident of Duror. Her late husband Innes MacColl (our much loved former postmaster) was the last MacColl whose family tree reached back to the days of James of the Glen. His father Angus had a story to the effect that it was a female member of their family who brought up Seumas a’Ghlinne, James of the Glen, an illegitimate son of the Stewart of Ardsheal.
Steering Group Members
The Steering group was initially formed in July 2023, and as well as the steering group, we have a number of supporters who are helping us research various areas of the proposed activities. We welcome input and offers of support from all.
Liz Paul
I have lived and worked in Cuil Bay for more than 30 years. Over the years I have worn many hats, but always with a connection, to land , community and environment. It is a privilege to be involved with MaCCOLL which blends all of these themes together. MaCCOLL gives us an opportunity to be involved in a project that will help protect our beautiful marine and coastal environment, so that future generations can enjoy what we have all taken for granted for so long.
Alison Salmon
I have lived in Cuil Bay for 30 + years and enjoy the peace and tranquility that the surrounding environment brings. I have seen the effects of erosion at the beach in Cuil Bay and would like to take action to conserve what we have and encourage the community to work together to preserve and enhance the environment for future generations.
Paul Williams
Paul Williams has lived in Duror for almost fifty years and has a keen interest in the local environment and heritage.

To minimise administration, monthly standing orders of £2 per month (or an annual payment of £24) per ticket are set up. Each month, perhaps at an organised event or a MaCCOLL public meeting, the winning number is drawn. There will be one winning prize of up to £100 each month. The remainder of up to £100 will go into MaCCOLL funds. There is no limit to how many tickets an individual may buy.
